Abstract

The current study, titled “Role of Netflix in creating Fear of missing out among Youth,” is quantitative research aimed at exploring the role that Netflix seasons play in creating fear of missing out among non-watchers of Netflix seasons. Another aim of this study is to find whether the fear is missing out is related to anxiety among youth or not. The trend of Netflix emerged in Pakistan during COVID-19. While most of the youth were passing their time in quarantine watching seasons on Netflix, there were many of them who did not watch Netflix at all. These non-watchers can be facing the fear of missing out due to missing this opportunity. A sample of 350 respondents was collected through a survey method from university students, and a structured, closed-ended questionnaire comprising 33 questions was used as a data collection tool. The purposive sampling method was used for the collection of data. The study implied a theoretical framework using social influence theory. Lastly, the data is analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 17.0. The study explores four hypotheses. Chi-square test and correlation analysis are employed to examine H1 and H4, while the Chi-square test alone is applied to assess H2 and H3.
