Abstract

This paper considers how to use graphic design to disseminate and rectify misinformation in social media. The study chose to conduct qualitative visual content analysis based on the case studies on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, and TikTok. The research concluded that misinformation is more effective when it incorporates striking visuals and imagery that evoke emotions, and uses colours that reflect fear or anger-stirring tendencies to prompt immediate sharing. On the contrary, fact-checking images are very precise and authoritative, but they do not appeal to the user as effectively. The article emphasises the necessity of adapting platforms to the specifics of design and local approaches to achieve the areas of fixed content. It also suggests that fact-checkers invest in visually appealing designs that are both emotionally engaging and clear, thereby promoting engagement and supporting credibility. Design-based interventions that place factual information in more visible locations and further research should both be encouraged in order to keep pace with the changing misinformation strategies
