Abstract

The concept of the punishment of the grave holds significant importance in Islamic belief and is a consensus-based doctrine of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah. This article aims to clarify and describe the clear evidence of the punishment in the grave as mentioned in the Qur'an. To achieve this, 15 Qur'anic verses have been compiled, from which classical exegetes have derived evidence for the existence of the punishment of the grave. The study reveals that multiple Qur'anic verses explicitly or implicitly indicate that sinners are subjected to punishment, while the righteous receive rewards after death and before the Day of Judgment. The repeated mention of the punishment of the grave throughout the Qur'an makes this belief definitive, leaving no room for disagreement.
