THE ROLE OF SCHOOL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEES IN ENHANCING PUBLIC SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION: A STUDY ON PUBLIC SCHOOL OF SINDH, PAKISTAN

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of School Management Committees (SMCs) on the administrative performance of public schools in Sindh, Pakistan. Employing a quantitative correlational research design, data were collected from a sample of 400 respondents, comprising school heads, teachers, and SMC members across diverse districts. The analysis focuses on the relationship between SMC engagement and critical dimensions of school administration, including student enrolment management, teacher supervision, financial oversight, infrastructure maintenance, and pedagogical facilitation. Statistical findings indicate a significant positive correlation between proactive SMC involvement and enhanced administrative efficiency, characterized by improved decision-making processes, heightened transparency, and optimized resource utilization. Nevertheless, the study identifies structural limitations such as insufficient training, knowledge gaps, and irregular participation, which impede the committees' operational effectiveness. The research underscores the necessity for comprehensive capacity-building initiatives, policy reinforcement, and systematic monitoring to amplify the governance role of SMCs, fostering sustainable improvements in educational administration.
