OVERCOMING WRITING CHALLENGES FACED BY NURSES IN NURSING DOCUMENTATION

Abstract

Introduction: This article discusses the challenges faced by nurses in documenting patient care in nursing documentation, including time constraints, lack of training, inadequate documentation systems, and technical skills. Inaccurate, incomplete, or delayed documentation can have negative impacts on patient care and safety, including miscommunication, delayed or incorrect treatments, and legal or regulatory non-compliance. The article suggests implementing strategies such as providing adequate training, efficient documentation systems, time management, and technical support to overcome these challenges and improve patient care and safety.

Objective: The importance of nursing documentation in healthcare is emphasized, as it serves as a record of patient care, aids in communication between healthcare providers, and is used for clinical decision-making, research, and quality improvement initiatives.

Methodology:  The methodology described involves a mixed-methods approach to investigate writing challenges faced by nurses in nursing documentation. The research is divided into three phases: Phase 2 involves a qualitative study to explore effective strategies for overcoming the identified writing challenges. This will be done through focus group discussions with nurses and nursing documentation experts Phase 3 involves the development and testing of an intervention to overcome writing challenges faced by nurses in nursing documentation. The intervention will be based on the findings from the literature review and focus group discussions, and will be tested through a randomized controlled trial.

The data presented in the second part of the question provides insights into the demographic characteristics and behaviors of a specific population in relation to documentation standards and guidelines. However, it is important to note that the data may not be representative of other populations.
