THE IMPACT OF PUBLIC SECTOR TRAINING PROGRAMS ON EMPLOYEE COMPETENCY AND JOB SATISFACTION

Abstract

The study investigates the influence PSTPs (public sector training programs) bear upon employee competency (EC) and job satisfaction (JS) in government colleges of Khairpur. A quantitative research design was employed, where responses were gathered from 108 employees across structured questionnaires-a sample consisting of 87% males and 13% females. Reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multivariate tests (MANOVA) were used to analyze the relationship among PSTP, EC, and JS. The findings indicated the significant and positive effect of PSTP on both employee competency and job satisfaction, with the former being the more potent influence on the latter. Correlation analysis showed a meaningful relationship between employee competency and job satisfaction, indicating that higher employee competency relates to greater job satisfaction and vice versa. The direct effect of the training programs on employee competency, however, was minimal, thus indicating scope for further improvement of the training design and application. The findings emphasize the training programs need to be well structured to bring about employee growth, adaptability, and satisfaction at work. Organizations must offer training programs responsive to employee and organizational needs while removing obstacles such as limited resources and bureaucratic ineptitude. Thus, this study contributes to exploring how public sector training programs enhance employee outcomes and organizational performance and provides insights for public-sector policymakers and HR practitioners. Future research may investigate other variables and contexts to refine training strategies and prove their applicability to different public sector situations.
