PROMOTING ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS AND LIFE SAVING MEASURES: A CASE STUDY OF STUDENTS AND VISITORS AT BUET, KHUZDAR

Abstract

Educational policies of any country concerning focusing educational institutions including higher education institutions play a significant role in its implementation as well as ongoing future success. The research study related to the analysis of the implementation of assessment policies in the field of the educational domain, in a public sector university in particular in Balochistan province, Pakistan. The researcher hence, to achieve this particular aim, made use of a sample of 318 university students and 15 numbers gathered from both students and incoming visitors within the educational institution located in BUET, Khuzdar. The design taken in this study was sequential explanatory research (mixed method) using the Driver Behavior Questionnaire (DBQ) following a semi-structured interview mechanism. For the quantitative part, the researcher used the technique of stratified random sampling whereas, for the interpretation of the qualitative part, he adopted the purposive sampling technique. The survey questionnaire was used for the phase of quantitative part whereas semi-structured queries were asked during the interview or qualitative phase. The findings pointed out that there is an association between road safety awareness of university students and incoming visitors on safety rules. Besides, the major portion of participating students and incoming visitors only33% were unable able to recognize safety signage correctly, especially road signs about vehicles prohibited in both directions. Similarly, three other sub-constructs like work zone safety factor, vehicular factor, and environmental factor around 42%, 35%, and 29% sequentially where the improvement need of safety awareness was addressed. The findings also emphasized to implementation of the road safety awareness campaign in terms of road safety awareness programs, and safety rules awareness in order to ensure the current control measures of road accidents. Furthermore, keeping in view the current level of safety awareness, and efforts made so far by the institutions, the paper reflects some suggestive measures to reinforce their contribution to this particular strategy of promoting road safety awareness which may help ensure life-saving measures in other areas besides university premises.
