Abstract

John Keats’s Ode on a Grecian Urn remains one of the most celebrated expressions of romantic lyricism, encapsulating the poet’s preoccupation with beauty, mortality, and the transcendental power of art. This study offers a comprehensive stylistic exploration of the poem, examining how Keats’s linguistic choices, including diction, syntax, phonological patterns, imagery, and symbolism contribute to its aesthetic and emotional impact. Lexical and semantic scrutiny reveal the delicate balance between concrete natural imagery and abstract reflection, highlighting the poet’s skill in evoking both sensory experience and philosophical meditation. Syntactic structures, including variation in sentence length, parallelism, and rhetorical shifts, are analyzed to show how they mirror the oscillation of the speaker’s emotional states, moving fluidly between longing, ecstasy, melancholy, and introspection. The study also explores the strategic use of figurative language like metaphors, similes, and personification, which deepens the reader’s engagement with the poem’s existential and aesthetic themes. By integrating insights from stylistics and literary linguistics, this paper demonstrates that Keats’s Ode on a Grecian Urn is not merely a reflection on mortality or fleeting pleasure, but a masterful orchestration of language, sound, and imagery that transcends the boundaries of poetic form. Ultimately, this analysis highlights the enduring power of Keats’s lyricism, showing how the poem achieves a harmonious fusion of emotional resonance and stylistic sophistication.
